Swords carried in the Australian Army
The Artillery Sword
The current Artillery Sword is the British Artillery Officer’s Sword pattern of 1822. It has a steel three bar hilt and backstrap as well as a wire-bound sharkskin grip.
- Blade: A forged stainless steel blade, hammered to the correct curvature (based on the cavalry sword). In addition, it has a single fuller to each side to within eleven inches (27.5 cm) of the sword point. The acid-etching is so deep, that one can feel it with a fingernail. The dimension of the blade is ca. 870 x 25 x 6 mm.
- Guard: Solid brass, hand-polished, nickel-plated.
- Grip: Handle is covered with genuine stingray skin, wrapped with 3 silver-plated wires.
- Scabbard: Your choice of a nickel-plated and hand-polished steel scabbard with 2 attachment rings, or real brown calf leather scabbard with 2 attachment rings.
Members of the Royal Australian Artillery wear the Artillery Sword.
